Self Care with Ella Henry @glowwithella

by Ella Henry, Wellness Expert

In today’s fast-paced and demanding world, taking care of oneself often takes a backseat to the numerous responsibilities and obligations we face each day. However, neglecting self-care can have detrimental effects on our overall well-being, health, and happiness. It is easy to forget that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity for leading a fulfilling and balanced life.

When we prioritize self-care, we are better able to manage everyday stress and prevent potential burnout. And let’s be honest, we all know burnout IS real! The World Health Organization has even recognized burnout as a “syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed”.[1] We all know we should be prioritizing self-care, but sometimes it’s hard to incorporate it in our daily lives.

We sat down with one of our favorite advocates for self-care and holistic gut health, Ella Henry, better known on TikTok and Instagram as GlowWithElla, for some self-care pockets of wisdom.

SELF-CARE Q&A

Q: What does self-care mean to you?

A: Self-care means taking the time to be still & silent with yourself and your mind and tune into what your body needs. Giving yourself the space to give yourself what your body needs.

Q: You recently started incorporating slow wellness mornings into your routine, why?

A: We live in a world where everything is so rushed and fast paced, sometimes you are thrown into the day without even giving yourself time to think or tune into your body.

Slow mornings are a way to give myself space, quietness, and stillness, where I can do exactly what I want to do without being thrown straight into the rush and hustle of the day.

Q: Why is gut health so important to you?

A: The gut is interconnected to all the inner workings of your body – hormones, brain health, immunity, skin, energy… the list goes on. An imbalanced gut leads to an imbalance everywhere else in your body. It is so important to target the root of what could be going on with symptoms, and I always think a great place to start is in the gut. Once you begin to heal your gut, so much starts to fall into place.

Q: What is your favorite Apricō product and why?
A: “The Hydrate + Replenish sachets are a daily NECESSITY for me. Minerals are essential to everyday wellbeing, and these make it so easy to replenish my water with the essential minerals that I need. Since adding minerals into my daily routine, I have felt more hydrated, my skin is clearer, and I have more energy overall. The individual-serving sachets are super easy to take on the go – and pretty much flavorless in water! I highly recommend them.”

Self-Care doesn’t have to be hard! Try one of our favorite simple self-care tactics below.

3 SIMPLE SELF-CARE HACKS

        1. TRY ELLA’S “SLOW MORNINGS”

Wake up a few hours earlier than normal to give yourself time to ease into your day. Enjoy room temperature water with lemon upon waking and do something just for you whether it’s meditation, reading, or just sitting in the quiet. Try to wait at least 1.5 hours before drinking caffeine to allow adenosine levels to rise while also resetting your circadian rhythm.

        2. TURN YOUR SHOWER INTO A SPA WITH FRESH EUCALYPTUS

Try hanging fresh cut eucalyptus leaves from your showerhead and enjoy the effects of this classic medicinal plant. Eucalyptus is well known to relieve congestion and support healthy immune function – not to mention the fresh scent will permeate your room and wake you up!

        3. CALL A FRIEND

Studies show that quality social interaction can not only boost happiness, but also reduce stress. Pick up the phone and give your friend, sister, brother, mom, dad, cousin (you get it) a call – Chances are both of you will benefit from the feel-good dopamine from your chat!

In the midst of our busy lives, practicing self-care is vital for our overall well-being and happiness. By nurturing our mind, body, and soul, we can cultivate resilience, reduce stress, and improve our quality of life. Remember, self-care is not selfish; it is an act of self-love and self-preservation. Start small, make self-care a priority, and witness the positive impact it can have on your life.
